SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Led by three top-five finishes, the Belmont women's golf team captured the team title at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate held this week at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tennessee.

On another sunny, warm Tuesday in the Smokies, Belmont posted a second round team score of 307 to win the team crown with a 36-hole score of 602.  They finished 18 strokes ahead of second place Eastern Kentucky (620) and 27 strokes ahead of host Tennessee Tech in third place (629).

This is the second team title the Bruins have won this season (Austin Peay) and marks only the second time in program history that the BU has won two tournaments in one season (2006-07).

"I am very proud of this team and their effort this week," said Lissa Bradford, Belmont head coach.  "This victory was set up by their play yesterday and the solid golf they played today under some tough conditions."

The Bruins had three golfers finish among the top-five.  Freshman Katie Story finished second after falling in a playoff to Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville.  After both golfers tied on the first four holes, Katterhenry won the individual title when she parred the fifth playoff hole.  Story, a Dickson, Tennessee product, got into the playoff by posting a 72 on Tuesday to finish the event at 145.  It is her first top-five finish of her career.

Sophomore Megan Heath also earned All-Tournament honors after finishing fourth with a score of 151.  She shot a 76 in the final round, earning her first top-10 finish of the season.  In addition, senior Sydney Hudson posted her first top-10 finish of the year by finishing in a tie for fifth place at 152.

Other Belmont scores from the tournament included: senior Evin Edens (T-14, 157) and freshman Mallory Sullivan (T-26, 161).

Three Bruins competed as individuals: sophomore Abbie Gregory (T-26, 161), redshirt freshman Maddie Williams (T-46, 173), and sophomore Alexi Bevans (T-50, 176).

The women's golf team is back in action next Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24, at the Samford Invitational in Hoover, Alabama.
