HOOVER, Ala. – The Belmont women's golf team stands in fourth place after day one of the Samford Intercollegiate held this week at Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Alabama. In addition, sophomore Abbie Gregory is tied for the individual lead.
After being in sixth place with a score of 323 in the first round, the Bruins responded with a score of 301 in the second round to move up two spots and end the day in fourth place with a 36-hole mark of 623. Ole Miss has the team lead at 610, while host Samford is second at 614. Louisiana-Monroe is in third place at 621.
Sophomore Abbie Gregory is tied for the individual lead after carding score of 75 and 74 for a total of 149. She is tied with three other golfers: Bailey Gray of Samford and two golfers from Ole Miss, Allison Holvalter and Abby Newton. The only other Bruin in the top-20 is freshman Katie Story. The Dickson, Tennessee native is tied for 14th place at 157 after posting rounds of 83 and 74.
The other Belmont scores from day one included: sophomore Megan Heath (T-23, 159), senior Sydney Hudson (T-26, 161), and freshman Mallory Sullivan (T-30, 163).
The third and final round will begin on Tuesday morning at 8:30am.
