KENNESAW, Ga. -- Belmont softball couldn't overcome timely mistakes Monday afternoon as the Bruins dropped a 5-0 decision to Kennesaw State (15-6).
With runners on first and third and one out in the second inning, the Owls used an RBI single to drive in their first run of the game.
With two away in the second, an unfortunate BU throwing error extended the inning for the home team and the Owls took advantage of the Bruin mistake by adding three more runs to extend their lead, 4-0.
Another BU throwing error allowed another KSU baserunner to cross home plate in the bottom of the fourth as the Owls went up, 5-0.
Belmont (5-12) couldn't find enough offense to threaten the Owls the rest of the way as the Bruins registered just two hits and failed to challenge a KSU squad that had won four of their last five contests.
Belmont's Taylor Moon (Vestavia, Ala.) was credited with the loss on the afternoon although the junior had a solid effort from the circle, allowing only one earned run in five innings of play.
Offensively, the Bruins recorded five hits on the day from five different players.
After nearly a month away from Nashville, Belmont returns to Rose Park this weekend as the Bruins open OVC play with a three-game series against divisional foe Eastern Kentucky.
