OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – The Belmont women's golf team moved up two spots in Tuesday's final round to finish in fourth place at this week's OVC Championship held at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
Belmont posted a team score of 299 on Tuesday to finish in fourth place with a 54-hole score of 918. Eastern Kentucky won the conference team title with a score of 902. Jacksonville State placed second at 903, while Tennessee Tech was third at 914.
The team's fourth place finish was the program's best in a conference championship since the 2008 Atlantic Sun Championship, when they placed third. In addition, their final round score of 299 and their final 54-hole mark of 918 each broke program records for lowest 18-hole and 54-hole marks in a conference championship.
"I was really proud of how our team played today," said Lissa Bradford, Belmont head coach. "There were some tough conditions out there with the wind and fast greens, but we persevered and scored well enough to move up to fourth place."
Two Bruins finished among the top-10. Freshman Katie Story finished alone in seventh place with a score of 226. The Dickson, Tennessee native carded a one-over par 73 in the final round. She finished nine shots behind individual medalist, Sofie Levin of Eastern Kentucky (217).
Senior Evin Edens wrapped up her Belmont career with tie for ninth place with a mark of 229. The Mount Juliet, Tennessee product also posted a final round 73.
Those finishes marks the first time since the 2008 Atlantic Sun Championship that BU placed two golfers among the top-10 at a conference championship.
In addition to Story and Edens, senior Sydney Hudson finished her collegiate career with a tie for 20th place at 235 after carding a 75 on Tuesday. Freshman Mallory Sullivan tied for 22nd place at 236, while sophomore Megan Heath finished in 36th place at 243.
This tournament wraps up the 2015-16 season for the women's golf team. In 10 events, they won two tournament titles and had five top-five finishes.
