JONESBORO, Ark. - - Belmont University women's golf stands in fifth place following Monday's action at the 2016 Lady Redwolves Classic.
The field faced a stern test in the Sage Meadows Golf Club on day one, as steady winds howled between 20-25 mph, with gusts near 40 mph.
Nevertheless, in the words of head coach Lissa Bradford, the Bruins delivered one of the finest opening 18 holes in recent memory.
All told, Belmont was ultra-consistent, carding eight sub-80 rounds.
The Bruins' team total of 617 (306-311) is well-positioned; while UTEP has broken free from the field, Belmont is only six shots from second place and host Arkansas State.
Senior Abbie Gregory (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the way with fine rounds of 74-78-152 to stand tied for ninth heading into the final round.
Fellow senior Megan Heath (Auburn, Ala.) is T-13 after rounds of 76-78.
Sophomore Emma Kate Liu (Dallas, Texas) had a team-low 76 in the afternoon loop.
Final round action is slated for Tuesday.
