NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team lost their OVC opener to Jacksonville State 6-1 in a match played Friday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
The Gamecocks took the early 1-0 lead as they captured wins at numbers one and three doubles. The Bruins did win at number two as juniors Abbie Mather and Laura Van Eeckhoudt beat Claudia Marsala and Diana Mirceta 7-5.
In singles, JSU earned wins at five of the six positions to clinch the 6-1 victory over Belmont. BU did post a victory at number four singles as sophomore Suzanna Stapler defeated Diana Mirceta 6-1, 6-0.
The women's tennis teams (2-6, 0-1) is back in action next Thursday as they play Tennessee at 10:00am at Vanderbilt and then travel later in the day to Tennessee State for a 4:00pm match.
