SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team defeated the host Sewanee Tigers 3-2 in a best of five match played Sunday at The Course at Sewanee in Sewanee, Tennessee.
In a dual match that was contested in match play format, Belmont won three of the five matches played. In match one, Sewanee's Sophie Morrill beat sophomore Emma Kate Liu 2&1. Senior Abbie Gregory was victorious in match two over Meghan Symonds 3&2.
Match three saw Sewanee's Sarah Battye beat senior Megan Heath 2&1. In match four, junior Mallory Sullivan defeated Mary Elizabeth Benton 2 up, while senior Alexi Bevans beat Natalie Javadi 5&4.
Three Bruins competed as individuals: freshman Carlee Nanney fell to Caroline Cole 6&5; freshman Julia Nittoli lost to Emma Parson 5&4, and redshirt junior Maddie Williams fell to Mallory Anne Sheenan 1 up.
The women's golf team opens tournament play on September 12-13 at the Drake Creek Invitational in Paducah, Kentucky.
