OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – The Belmont women's golf team stands in sixth place after round one of the OVC Championship held Monday on the Highlands Course at the RTJ Trail at Hampton Cove in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
On an unseasonable warm, humid April day, the Bruins posted a team score of 312 to finish the day in sixth place. Murray State and Eastern Kentucky have the team lead as they both posted an OVC single round record team score of 286. Jacksonville State is third at 300.
Two seniors lead the Belmont contingent. Alabama native Megan Heath is tied for 16th place after carding a four-over par 76 on Monday. She is eight shots behind individual leaders, Elsa Moberly of EKU and Linette Holmslykke of Murray State, who each shot 68.
Abbie Gregory is one shot back of Heath as she posted a five over 77 to finish the day in a tie for 20th place.
Other Belmont scores from Monday included: junior Mallory Sullivan (T-28, 79), sophomore Emma Kate Liu (T-31, 80), and freshman Julia Nittoli (T-36, 85).
The second round of the championship will begin Tuesday morning at 8:00am. The Belmont golfers will be teeing off between 8:50-9:30am and will be playing with Austin Peay and Morehead State.
