OXFORD, Miss. -- Despite a handful of strong scoring opportunities, Belmont Softball was unable to find a way to get runners over the plate on Wednesday night. The Bruins (21-13) fell on the road at Ole Miss (21-16), 5-0.
The Rebels posted three runs in the bottom of the second inning, using consecutive singles. However, Belmont had an excellent opportunity in the top of the third frame to tie up the contest. Freshman Georgia McKee (Frisco, Texas) reached on a throwing error before seniors Jess Andree (Darien, Ill.) and Lexi Rouse (Macon, Ga.) singled to nearly identical spots in shallow left field. Unfortunately, BU was unable to take advantage of the situation and push a run over the plate.
UM added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to add more distance between the teams, taking a 5-0 lead. The Bruin bats continued to connect and even moved multiple runners into scoring position but could not get a runner home in the waning innings. Despite a valiant effort, Belmont fell by the same score.
For the day, Rouse led the Bruins at the plate, going 2-for-3.
Sophomore Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) went the distance inside the circle, finishing with three strikeouts.
BU returns to action on Friday, April 13 at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins host Morehead State for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available.
