Box Score MARTIN, Tenn.-- Belmont University softball records their first loss in Ohio Valley Conference play against UT Martin to end their 11 game win streak, 1-0. The Bruins played fantastic defense today but were unable to score on their four recorded hits.
A pitchers game and a lot of fantastic defense today at Bettye Giles Softball field. The game remained scoreless for the first five innings. Pitcher Emma Summers did not give up a hit until the bottom of the fourth. Summers struck out eight batters swinging, allowing a single hit, with no walks.
Top of the third, Audrey Lyle roped a stand up double down the left field line. Top of the fourth Alicia Veltri singled up the middle to get on base for the Bruins. Emma Barnes and Elison Ollinger both singled to tally the four hits for Belmont's offense.
The Skyhawks scouted the Bruins intently as they successfully threw down to catch two runners stealing second. The defensive play that not many teams have tested the Bruins on due to their success in stealing this season. Cheyenne Cavanaugh recorded a single stolen base today to bring her total to 68.
The Bruins will face the Skyhawks tomorrow still looking to win the series beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
