MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Belmont Softball came out victorious over Middle Tennessee in a midweek tilt 4-0, the fourth Bruin shutout of the season. 

The Bruins tallied twelve hits on the night able to capitalize for 4 runs. 

Bottom of the first was ended by a fantastic catch by second baseman, Kristen Green who laid out in Superman style to get the out. The Bruins were fired up going into the top of the second and got the bats going. Emily Cockrill started off the inning with a double followed by a Walk from Gabrielle Givers. The pair stole their respective bases putting both of them in scoring position. Abi Ledbetter sent a high ball into left field, Cockrill sped home and scored on the throw. 

The Blue Raiders sole hit came in the bottom of the second, a ground ball right up the middle. Belmont got out of the inning clear of any Middle Tennessee runs.

Top of the third, lead off batter Cheyenne Cavanaugh reached first on a ripped single through center field. Murfreesboro was graced with a Kristen Green special 2 RBI homerun deep past center field. Green's seventh home run of the season secures her spot to the single season record book for most home runs, currently ranked seventh. 

The Bruins made all of the right plays tonight earning no errors.

Top of the seventh the Bruins added an additional two runs on three hits to deepen the blow against the Blue Raiders. Both Alicia Veltri and Cavanaugh singled to get on base. Emma Barnes with a sacrifice fly to bring home Indy Cockrill who pinch ran for Veltri. Abi Ledbetter finished off the hitting for the Bruins with a dagger straight down the right field line for a RBI single. 

Pitcher Alex Clesi appeared in the circle for her seventh start of the season pitching 5 innings allowing only a single hit she added a win to her now 5-1 record. Delayna Bryant also saw some action in the circle pitching two innings to finalize the win for the Bruins. 

 

Up Next

The Bruins set to host Morehead State in a three game series April 23-24 the first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
