NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Beginning its two-match weekend at the Ensworth Tennis Center Saturday, the Belmont University women's tennis team was handed a 7-0 loss by visiting East Tennessee State University. The Buccaneers (4-3) gave up only one set across doubles and singles play as the Bruins were unable to find a win throughout their lineup.
After ETSU's doubles duos of Fernanda Carvajal and Daniela Rivera and Ralitsa Alexandrova and Yunuen Elizarraras won the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively, giving up only one combined game, freshman
Mariia Hlahola and sophomore
Abi Solomon were only trailing 4-3 at the top spot when the doubles point was clinched by the Bucs.
In singles, Solomon nearly pulled out a win at the second position. She took the opening set versus ETSU's Mariya Shumeika 7-2 in a tiebreaker but couldn't bounce back from a 6-2 second set loss. Shumeika ended up prevailing 10-7 in the third set super tiebreak.
Senior
Taylor Trondson played the Bucs' Rivera close at No. 4 singles in a 6-4, 7-5 affair and sophomore
Aly Getty won seven games against Elizarraras in a 6-4, 6-3 match at No. 6 singles.
