NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to Southeast Missouri Saturday from the Belmont Tennis Complex.
The former conference rivals renewed pleasantries in Music City and another compelling match transpired.
The Bruins dug deep to claim the coveted doubles point; on line two
Abi Solomon and
Viktoria Kliimand defeated Daniela Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska, 6-4.
Soon after, the nationally-ranked pairing of
Mariia Hlahola and
Anastasiya Zholdakova gutted out a tiebreak victory over Romana Tarajova and Ksenia Shikanova at first doubles to get Belmont on the board.
The Redhawks earned singles victories at lines four, five and six to take a 3-1 lead.
While Hlahola and Solomon were able to record impressive, come-from-behind victories at first and second singles over Hlacikova and Tarajova, respectively, Southeast Missouri claimed the match with victory at No. 3 singles.
It was the first series meeting since the 2022 OVC Tournament semifinal.
Belmont (3-10) opens Missouri Valley Conference play March 19 vs. Valparaiso. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. from the Belmont Tennis Complex.
