NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's tennis defeated Dartmouth, 5-2, Thursday from the Belmont Tennis Complex.
The Bruins continued their fine form in doubles, once again getting the first point on the board.
Marko Ilic and
Riccardo Trione took control early and defeated Waleed Qadir and Miles Groom, 6-1, at first doubles.
The point was later secured when
Tomas Luis and
Ian Cruz earned a 7-5 win over Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and Hikaru Takeda.
From there, reigning Horizon League Men's Singles Player of the Week
Alfred Wallin earned a commanding 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Groom at second singles for the Bruins' second point.
Luis put Belmont one point away moments later with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Takeda on line five.
Cruz and
Gabriel Sardo ensured the match with straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The victory is believed to be the Bruins' first team head-to-head win over an Ivy League program.
Belmont (8-5) returns to competition Saturday at Samford.
