Softball Drops Midweek Game to Murray State

Belmont Battled in 9 Inning Game Against the Racers

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Belmont University Softball fell to Murray State 3-2 in a midweek matchup. The Bruins fought hard through the 9 inning game which resulted in a walkoff double from the Racers. 

On the day, Belmont recorded 2 runs, 7 hits, and 1 error. Abi Ledbetter posted two singles to lead the Bruins in hits. 

How it Happened 
In the midst of a pitcher's duel both teams remained scoreless in the first four innings.

Maya Johnson earned the start against the Racers. In the first and third innings, Johnson posted 3 consecutive strikeouts to take the Bruins out of the inning. On the day, Johnson tallied 9 strikeouts in 5 innings. 

Ally Turner, who reached on a fielder's choice, was brought home promptly by Emily Cockrill's RBI single. Brenna Blume added another to the Bruins' lead with an RBI single to score Cockrill. 

The Racers countered in the bottom of the fifth with their own RBI single from Taylor Jackson to cut the deficit in half. 

Murray State tied the game 2-2 in the sixth on a RBI triple from Bailey Broemmer.

Both teams were unable to produce in the seventh the game was sent to extra innings.

A double in the ninth from the Racer's Saxon Radcliffe made the difference in today's matchup.
