MURRAY, Ky. - - Belmont University Softball dropped a 1-0 decision at Murray State Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The result spoiled another courageous pitching performance against the Racers; this time
Emma Summers allowing only one base runner in six-plus innings before Gracie Osbron hit a game-winning, walk-off home run.
Â
Belmont threatened to score in the top half of the first, as
Abi Ledbetter walked and
Emily Cockrill reached base on a Murray State error.
Â
But the pair were stranded on second and third base as Bre Haislip worked out of the jam.
Â
Meanwhile, Summers retired the first 11 Racers she faced, before Osbron singled with two outs in the fourth inning.
Â
Belmont got a leadoff double from
Nicole Hughes to open the top of the seventh inning. Following a successful sacrifice bunt from
Brenna Blume to advance Hughes to third base, Murray State pitcher Hannah James got consecutive strikeouts to keep the game scoreless.
Â
Summers got Jadyn Thompson to fly out to right field before Osbron's big swing.
Â
Belmont (23-21) returns to game action Friday vs. Drake.
Â
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. from E.S. Rose Park.
