NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University Softball dropped a 9-4 decision to Drake Saturday afternoon from E.S. Rose Park.
Ā
The Bruins honored seniors
Kailey Brown,
Audrey Lyle,
MyKayla Spurlin and
Kristen Green prior to first pitch.
Ā
After Drake scored one run in the top of the first inning, Belmont received a wonderful boost in the second.
Ā
Brown orchestrated a Hollywood script of sorts, by sending a full-count pitch over the right field fence for the first home run of her career on Senior Day.
Ā
Drake swung momentum in the third inning plating five runs to take control, highlighted by a three-run home run from Carey Koenig.
Ā
The Bruins responded with a scoring rally in the bottom of the frame, but the Bulldogs minimized the damage with outstanding defense.
Ā
MaKayla Rice threw out pinch runner
Savannah Halterman at home plate following an RBI single from
Brenna Blume to keep the score at 6-3.
Ā
Belmont had another scoring opportunity thwarted at home plate in the fourth inning, as
Kaley Varner was ruled out on a double-steal attempt.
Ā
Brown limited Drake to two earned runs in admirable relief pitching work, but a lone run in the sixth inning from
Ally Turner would close out the Bruin scoring.
Ā
Belmont (24-22) concludes the weekend series with Drake Sunday.
Ā
First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
