AUBURN, Ala. – The Belmont University Softball Program took on no. 23 Virginia Tech to start day two of the Tiger Invitational. The Bruins fell to the Hokies 1-13.
Belmont was later scheduled for a rematch versus Illinois, but the game was canceled due to weather.
Game 1 (Belmont 1, Virginia Tech 13 – 5 inn.)
The Bruins came out strong in the first inning.
Emily Cockrill recorded an RBI single to give Belmont a 1-0 edge heading into the bottom of the first. The Hokies countered with four runs of their own to take a 1-5 lead heading into the second.
Virginia Tech got hot in the second to extend the lead at 1-12. The Bruins continued to battle, and
Brenna Blume added a single in the top of the third.
The Hokies went on to take the game 1-13 in five innings.
Cockrill and Blume combined for the Bruins' two hits.
Baie Ensio and
Kylie Cunningham recorded three put outs a piece.

The Tiger Invitational will resume regular scheduling on Sunday. Belmont will take on no. 19/20 Auburn to round out the Invitational at 2 p.m. In their Friday match up, the Bruins fell 1-6 to the Tigers.

Saturday: 10 am vs no. 23 Virginia Tech | 7 pm vs Illinois
Sunday: 2 pm vs no. 19/20 Auburn
