NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team earned their second win in the last three matches as they defeated Gonzaga 4-3 Saturday afternoon indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they won two out of three doubles matches. At number one, the duo of
Mariia Hlahola and
Anastasiya Zholdakova beat Kianna Oda and Emily Robertson 6-3. Then at two, junior
Viktoria Kliimand and freshman
Vesa Gjinaj outlasted Ella Nielsen and Brooke Bittner 7-6 (7-1). The Bulldogs earned the victory at the number three position.
In singles, Belmont earned wins at positions one, two, and six to edge Gonzaga 4-3. At one, Hlahola won in straight sets over Robertson 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Then at two, Gjinaj beat Oda 6-4, 7-5.
Sophomore
Libbie Hamilton clinched the victory for the Bruins with a comeback victory over Brooke Bittner 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, and 6-3.
The women's tennis team (5-3) is back in action next Saturday as they host Troy for a 2:00pm match indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center.
