NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (14-7) clashed with Ohio State (12-6) in a midweek matchup. The Bruins fell to the Buckeyes 0-8 (5 inn.).
How it Happened
Ohio State got on the board quickly in the top of the first to take a 0-1 lead.
Emma Barnes led the Bruins off and walked.
Nicole Hughes later added a single up the middle to put runners on first and second. Belmont was unable to bring in a run in the bottom of the first.
The Bruins started to gain momentum offensively in the second.
Emily Cockrill entered the batter's box and recorded a single.
Lauren Luciani later added a single of her own to put runners on first and second for Belmont. The Bruins worked their way to the top of the order where Barnes would record another single and load the bases. Despite having bases loaded, the Bruins were unable to bring anyone home.
The Buckeyes broke things open in the top of the third. Ohio State drove in six runs to take a 0-7 lead.
Belmont forced Ohio State three up, three down in the fourth inning.
Abi Ledbetter added a single in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bruins were unable to bring the first baseman home.
Ohio State added another run and continued to hold Belmont scoreless in the fifth. The Bruins fell to the Buckeyes 0-8 in five innings.
