NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's tennis dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Illinois State Saturday from the Beaman Family Tennis Complex.

The visiting Redbirds – the defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion – earned narrow 7-5 results on the top two lines to secure the doubles' point.

Singles proved to be equally competitive, with three of the six matches going the distance.

Aly Getty got the Bruins on the board with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, before Illinois State claimed wins at line two and five.

However, Belmont kept battling, as
Mariia Hlahola and
Anastasiya Zholdakova rallied for emotional three-set victories at first and third singles, respectively.

Ultimately, Silvia Pomarolli secured the team win for Illinois State on line four with a three-set victory over
Viktoria Kliimand.

Belmont (7-7, 0-1 MVC) returns to play Sunday vs. Bradley. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
