Men's Tennis Defeats Tennessee Tech to Advance to Horizon League Championship Final

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - - Belmont University men's tennis defeated Tennessee Tech, 4-0, Saturday in the semifinal round of the 2024 Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship from the Purdue University Schwartz Tennis Center.
 
Belmont (11-9) advances to the championship final Sunday versus Cleveland State.
 
The Bruins got on the board first against the rival Golden Eagles, earning a hard-fought and valuable doubles' point.
 
After Alfred Wallin and Ian Cruz cruised to a 6-1 victory over Murilo Burckhardt and Paulo Ramos Martin on line 2, Belmont got heroics from Tomas Luis and Gabriel Sardo on line 3.
 
The Bruin duo battled for an epic tiebreak victory, 7-5, over Alex Alvarez and Darek Kuczynski to give Belmont major momentum heading into singles.
 
From there, Cruz, Sardo and Luis won commanding, straight-set victories in short order to secure the match.
 
Wallin, Ruben Busch and Niklas von Hellens also were up a set when their matches were called.
 
The Bruins move on to a second consecutive Horizon League championship final; Belmont defeated Tennessee Tech, 4-1, in the 2023 championship final.
 
Belmont is eying a historic fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and third in the last four years (2006, 2021, 2023).
