NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (28-17, 14-9 MVC) took a 2-1 win over Bradley (26-24, 13-10 MVC) on Senior Day.
How it Happened
Belmont and Bradley both faced a quick three up, three down inning in the first.
Grace Gressly led off the second inning for the Bruins with a single through the right side.
Savannah Halterman entered the game to pinch run for Gressly. The Braves then walked
Abi Ledbetter putting Bruins on first and second base. Halterman and Ledbetter each picked up a stolen base to put Belmont in scoring position with runners on second and third. Bradley followed up with another walk loading the bases for Belmont. Despite the full bases, Belmont was unable to record a run leaving the score at 0-0 heading into the third.
Neither team was able to score in the third or fourth. The game remained knotted at zero-all heading into the fifth inning.
In the top of the fifth, Bradley put a run on the board off a home run. The Braves took a 0-1 lead at the end of five.
Belmont and Bradley saw another scoreless inning in the sixth.
The Bruin defense secured three outs while preventing another run for the Braves in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh,
Baie Ensio made it on base after being walked and eventually advanced to third off a passed ball.
Ella Bertucci was then walked putting Bruins on first and third. Bertucci went on to steal second putting two Bruins in scoring position. With two outs on the board, no runs, and the game on the line,
Emma Barnes stepped up to the plate and drove in an RBI single to tie the game. The Bruins continued to rally as
Nicole Hughes hit a walk-off single to secure a 2-1 win for Belmont.
