PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Belmont University Softball Program (5-5, 0-0 MVC) faced nationally ranked Oregon (10-1, 0-0 B1G) Sunday morning to conclude the Littlewood Classic. The Bruins fell to the no. 21 Ducks 1-4.
How it Happened
Oregon took an early 0-2 lead in the bottom of the first.
In just her second start of the season,
Mackenzie Willis recorded two-straight strikeouts to keep the Ducks scoreless in the second inning.
The Bruins were unable to prevent another run from the Ducks in the bottom of the third leaving the score at 0-3.
The Ducks walked
Rylee Spindler who later advanced to second off a wild pitch. Despite the movement on the bases, Belmont couldn't bring in a run. Oregon followed with a home run in the bottom of the fourth extending their lead at 0-4 heading into the fifth.
Both teams faced a scoreless fifth inning.
Emily Cockrill added a single up the middle in the top of the sixth. Spindler followed with a double as E. Cockrill reached home to put the Bruins on the board.
Belmont eventually fell 1-4 to Oregon.
