CHICAGO – Taking on the nation's 61st-ranked team, the Belmont University men's tennis team was unable to record a match win in either singles or doubles Saturday morning at DePaul University in the Windy City. In their second match of the George Lott Classic inside XS Tennis Village, the Bruins (4-6) forced third sets on courts two and three in singles play but came up empty handed.
The host Blue Demons (6-5) convincingly took the doubles point with 6-1 set wins at the top two spots.
The tandem of senior
Diego Castro and junior
Eli Mizerski were knotted up at 4-4 against DePaul's Jona Gitschel and Andy Hadziabdic at No. 3 doubles when the opening point was clinched.
In singles action, the Blue Demons secured the match with straight-set wins at the No. 4-6 positions. Castro took DePaul's Thomas Giles to a tiebreaker in the second set at No. 5 singles but came up just short, 8-6.
The Blue Demons also won at the top of the lineup in straight sets where DePaul's Matteo Iaquinto got past junior
Esunge Ndumbe 6-3, 6-4.
Fellow junior
Sabi Roi recovered from a 6-4 opening-set loss to the Blue Demons' Pablo Torres Almeida at the second position with a dominant 6-1 set two victory but was narrowly defeated 10-8 in a decisive third-set tiebreaker.
On court three, freshman
