BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont University Softball Program (9-6, 0-0 MVC) rounded out the weekend in a rematch against UAB (9-4, 0-0 American) where they fell 0-6.Â

It was a one-two-three inning for Belmont in the first. UAB would add a run to take an early 0-1 lead heading into the second.

Neither team could get into an offensive rhythm in the second to leaving the score at 0-1 after two.

Maddy Balsiger was the first Bruin to reach the bases today after being hit by a pitch in the top of the third. The outfielder was later caught stealing resulting in another scoreless inning for Belmont. The Blazers went on to add four runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 0-5.

Nicole Hughes recorded the first hit of the game for Belmont with a single through the right side. The runner was unable to reach home leaving the score at 0-5 heading into the fifth.

The score remained 0-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth where UAB added another run extending their lead to six.
Â
The Bruins eventually fell to the Blazers 0-6.

Belmont returns to action in their home opener against Tennessee State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT.
