Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision at Alabama State

Highly-Competitive Match Decided at No. 4 Singles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - - Belmont University men's tennis dropped a 4-3 decision at Alabama State Wednesday afternoon from the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

After taking down Mercer hours earlier in Macon, the Bruins once again went to the limit this time with the host Hornets.

The doubles' point was highly-competitive and could have swung either way; Diego Castro and Eli Mizerski dropped a hard-fought 6-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.

While Esunge Ndumbe and Charlie Robin worked into a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, Sabi Roi and Stefan Vedovelli lost to the Alabama State pair of Alexandre Verlaguet and Matis Amier, 7-5, at top doubles to give the Hornets the double point.

Roi would get Belmont quickly on the board with a convincing, straight-sets victory at third singles. Soon after, Vedovelli would post the Bruins' second point with a 6-0, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5 singles.

Trailing 3-2, Mizerski equalized the match with an inspired 6-4, 7-5 victory over Matteo Lataste on the end of the singles sheet.

However, Alabama State would earn the match moments later, securing victory at fourth singles with Amier.

Belmont (6-9) continues its busy slate and impressive out-of-conference schedule Thursday at No. 39 Auburn.
