Bruins pick up a road win over the nationally-ranked Tigers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team upset No. 44 Memphis 4-2 in a non-conference match held Sunday afternoon at the Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis.

The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. At two, Esunge Ndumbe and Charlie Robin beat Sam Reeve and Harry Rock 6-2. Then at three, Diego Castro and Eli Mizerski defeated Luis Carvalho and Alejandro Vizoso 6-2.

In singles, Memphis posted wins at the top two positions, but the Bruins came back with wins at positions three, four and five, to clinch the 4-2 road victory over the Tigers.

At three, Sabi Roi beat Harry Rock 6-1, 6-1.  Then at five, Eli Mizerski won by retirement over Luis Carvalho.

Diego Castro clinched the winning point for the Bruins at number four as he beat Sam Reeve in straight sets 7-6, 6-3.

The match at number six was unfinished since the match result had been determined.

Sunday's win marks the program's first win over a ranked team since beating No. 67 ETSU in the A-Sun Tournament in April of 2006.
