NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team earned its fifth win of the season as the Bruins edged Lipscomb 4-3 in the Belmont Boulevard rivalry late Friday afternoon at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex on Belmont's campus.
Belmont earned the early 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point. At position one,
Stefan Vedovelli and
Sabi Roi beat Juan Lombisano and Facundo Perlov 6-3. Then at two,
Charlie Robin and
Esunge Ndumbe defeated Filippo Verdese and Oskar Szymcazk 6-2.Â
In singles, it was a back and forth affair between the two squads. The Bruins increased their lead to 3-0 with wins at positions one and two. Ndumbe beat Szymczak at one in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, then Robin swept Giovanni Ciocca in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.Â
The Bisons stormed back and tied the match with wins at positions three, four, and six.
Stefan Vedovelli clinched the match win for Belmont at No. 5 singles as he outlasted Oliver Thoeny in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
The men's tennis team (5-8) is back in action on Monday as they play at old Atlantic Sun Conference rival Mercer starting at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET in Macon, Georgia.
