SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Belmont University Softball Program (33-13, 16-6 MVC) fell, 3-2, to Missouri State (16-30, 13-9 MVC) in extra innings Friday evening.
How it Happened
Belmont started off strong as
Rylee Spindler recorded her first-career home run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
Both teams faced a one-two-three inning in the second leaving the Bruins up by one.
Baie Ensio added a single in the top of the third but was unable to reach home leaving the score at 1-0 heading into the fourth.
Belmont and Missouri State continued to play tough defense resulting in another scoreless inning for both sides.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bears added a run to even the score at 1-1.
Emma Barnes drove in a huge RBI triple in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead for the Bruins. Missouri State responded in the bottom of the inning with a run to even the score again at two all.
Neither team could plate a run in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.
Missouri State eventually hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning to claim game one of the series.
