SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Belmont University Softball Program (35-13, 18-6 MVC) claimed a dominant 11-0 win over Missouri State (16-32, 13-11 MVC) on Sunday to secure their fifth-straight MVC series win.

How it Happened
Nicole Hughes got the Bruins' offense going in the top of the first with a single through the right side. Belmont eventually scored off an obstruction at home plate to take an early 1-0 lead.

Neither team could plate a run in the second or third innings to leave the Bruins ahead by one heading into the fourth.

Belmont's offense gained momentum in the top of the fourth with four runs on five hits. The run featured an RBI single from
Madison Dolecki, a 2 RBI single from
Baie Ensio, and an RBI single from Hughes. The Bruins headed into the fifth up 5-0.

The Bruins added another pair of runs in the sixth.
Lauren Luciani led off the inning with her first home run of the season followed by an RBI double from
Emily Cockrill. With a seven-run lead, Belmont headed into the final inning.

The offense didn't slow down. Belmont added four more runs off four hits in the top of the seventh. The Bruins' final inning included an RBI single from
Rylee Spindler, Luciani, and Hughes.Â

Belmont held on to hand Missouri State their first shutout loss of the conference season.Â
