NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (37-14, 20-7 MVC) split Sunday's double header against Indiana State (19-32, 13-12) while securing a series win to finish the regular season. The Bruins topped the Sycamores 4-1 in game one of the day before falling 6-2 in game two.
Game One (4-1)
Belmont got off to a strong start in game one.
Grace Gressly recorded an RBI single to give the Bruins their first run of the day.
Emma Barnes later added an RBI single of her own to put Belmont ahead 2-0 after the first.
ISU responded with a run in the top of the second. The Sycamores' run cut into the Bruins' lead at 2-1 heading into the third.
The Bruin offense started to heat up in the bottom of the fourth.
Madison Dolecki recorded a huge 2 RBI home run to extend the lead to 4-1 after four innings of play.
Belmont's defense only allowed one hit from ISU through the final three innings as the Bruins cruised to a three-point victory in game one.
Game Two (2-6)
Gressly would once again bring in the first run for the Bruins with an RBI single to center.
The Bruins extended the lead at 2-0 after adding another run off an RBI sacrifice fly from Gressly.
ISU worked to close the gap at 2-1 in the fourth.
Daria Haynie and
Lauren Luciani each added a single in the fifth but were unable to reach home.
The Sycamores recorded three runs in the sixth to take the lead at 4-2.
In the top of the seventh, ISU added two more runs to claim game two 6-2.
