NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Opening its 2026 season, the Belmont University women's tennis team was handed a 7-0 loss at 18th-ranked Vanderbilt University Saturday at the Lummis Family Tennis Center in the Music City. The Bruins (0-1) were able to capture only one set against the nationally-ranked Commodores (2-0) as graduate
Cielo Tapia-Cruz won her second set at No. 4 singles.
Â
A 6-3 match at the top doubles spot was the closest of margins in doubles action before Vanderbilt swept singles play.
Â
The Commodores took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Â
On court four, Tapia-Cruz responded to a 6-3 opening set loss against Vanderbilt's Trinetra Vijayakumar with a 6-4 set two win. However, Tapia-Cruz was unable to do much damage in the third-set super tiebreaker as Vijayakumar won the deciding tiebreak 10-3.
