Men's Tennis Wins Doubles Point at Ole Miss Sunday Afternoon

OXFORD, Miss. – With a top-20 upset at the top doubles spot, the Belmont University men's tennis team won the doubles point at Southeastern Conference mainstay Ole Miss Sunday afternoon in Oxford, Mississippi. However, the host Rebels (12-0) won all six singles matches inside the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center to defeat the Bruins (2-5) 6-1.
 
Belmont's No. 1 doubles team of senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli dispatched the nation's 18th-ranked pair of Isac Strömberg and Kai Milburn 7-5. The nationally-ranked doubles win came just after the Bruins' No. 2 doubles tandem of freshman Charlie Robin and graduate Will Ecklund topped Ole Miss' Stefano D'Agostino and Pietro Pampanin 6-4.
 
Senior Eli Mizerski and sophomore Morgan Woodson trailed the Rebels' Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin 6-5 when Belmont clinched the doubles point.
 
Singles play, however, was much less favorable to the Bruins. Ole Miss won handily in straight sets at the No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
 
At No. 2 singles, Roi was edged in two sets, dropping a 7-4 first-set tiebreaker to the Rebels' Chambonniere and coming up just short in a 7-5 second set.
 
Vedovelli was the lone Belmont player to win a set in singles as he claimed a 6-2 second set against Ole Miss' Pampanin after falling in the opening set, 6-4. In the deciding third set, it was Pampanin who prevailed, 6-4.

The Bruins return to match play in the Music City Friday evening when they host East Tennessee State University at the Ensworth Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
