Softball Sweeps Home-Opening Doubleheader vs. Central Michigan

Big Fourth Inning Power Bruins at Rose Park

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball program opened its home slate in style Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Central Michigan University at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins edged the Chippewas 6–5 in game one before rolling to a 10–1 run-rule victory in the nightcap.

VS Central Michigan – Game 1 (6–5)

Belmont struck first in the second inning as Maddy Balsiger singled through the left side to drive in Lizzie Ozim. The Bruins added to the lead in the third with RBI singles from Rylee Spindler and Nicole Hughes, with Hughes plating two to push Belmont ahead 4–0.

Central Michigan answered with a four-run fourth inning to even the game before taking a 5–4 lead in the fifth on a pair of Belmont errors.

The Bruins responded in the late innings. Brenna Blume launched a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game at 5–5, setting the stage for Madison Dolecki, who delivered the game-winner with a solo homer in the seventh to seal the walk-off 6–5 win.

In the circle, Hannah Leierer, Ellie Giles, and Mackenzie Willis combined to limit the Chippewas over seven innings. Willis earned the save after striking out four across the final two frames.

VS Central Michigan – Game 2 (10–1)

Belmont's offense erupted in game two, beginning with a two-run home run from Lydia Vanderwoude in the second inning. The Bruins broke the game open with a eight-run fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from Spindler, Hughes, Dolecki, and Balsiger, capitalizing on pressure and defensive miscues to build a commanding 10–0 lead.

Central Michigan scored its lone run in the fifth, but Maya Johnson was dominant in the circle. Johnson scattered three hits, struck out 14, and allowed no earned runs to improve to 7–0 on the season.
