NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second consecutive outing, the Belmont University women's tennis team was unable to tally a point as the Bruins suffered a 7-0 loss to rival Lipscomb Sunday afternoon indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville. The Bisons (7-6) won the all-important doubles point in convincing fashion before claiming all six singles matches.
Â
Lipscomb put together 6-1 performances at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, while redshirt freshman
Savannah Webster and sophomore
Jessica Popiol trailed 5-4 at the top doubles spot.
Â
In singles play, the Bisons took courts one, two, five and six in straight sets. Belmont (1-10) was competitive at No. 3 and No. 4 singles as both graduate
Cielo Tapia-Cruz and freshman
Ketevan Jeladze pushed their opponents to third-set super tiebreakers.
Â
At the third spot, Tapia-Cruz edged the Bisons' Deborah Dominguez Collado 7-2 in an opening set tiebreaker before conceding the second set, 6-2. In the deciding 10-point super tiebreaker, Dominguez Collado emerged victorious, 10-6.
Â
On court four, Jeladze defeated Lipscomb's Serafima Bobrovnikova 6-4 in the first set before Bobrovnikova evened the match with a 6-1 second set. The third set came down to the wire with Bobrovnikova prevailing by the narrowest of margins in the super tiebreak, 10-8.
