Softball Pulls Out Late Win to Own the Boulevard

Bruins Rally To Secure Fifth Straight Victory Over Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball team (31–9, 17–3 MVC) claimed its fifth straight Battle of the Boulevard victory Wednesday night, rallying late to defeat Lipscomb University 11–10 in a back-and-forth matchup.

Belmont erased an early deficit, tied the game in the seventh inning, and pushed across the go-ahead run before Maya Johnson stepped in to shut the door and secure the win.

VS Lipscomb (11–10)

Lipscomb came out strong, scoring five runs in the first inning to take early control as Belmont looked to find its rhythm defensively.

The Bruins responded in a big way in the second inning, erupting for eight runs to take the lead. Tallulah Eichholz got things started with a two-RBI single, followed by a two-RBI double from Lydia Vanderwoude.

Rylee Spindler added an RBI single before Maddy Balsiger drove in two more runs with a base hit up the middle. Brenna Blume and Eichholz each added RBI singles to cap the inning, giving Belmont an 8–5 advantage.

Lipscomb answered once again, plating three runs in the second and two more in the third to regain the lead.

In the fourth, Belmont's defense provided a spark, turning a key double play from Vanderwoude to Madison Dolecki to Blume to shift momentum heading into the later innings.

The Bruins delivered in the clutch in the seventh.

Vanderwoude opened the inning with a triple, and Spindler followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 10–10. Later in the inning, Emily Konz lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Spindler and give Belmont the go-ahead run.

In the circle, Ally Middleton earned her first win of the season with two scoreless innings in relief. Maya Johnson entered in the final frame and struck out the side to record the save and secure the victory.
