BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf team stands in fifth place after round one of the Grahame McDowell Invitational held Sunday at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham.
Belmont carded a first round team score of 284 to finish the day in fifth place. They are 10 shots back of the leader and host UAB (274) and seven back of second place Central Arkansas (277).
Two Bruins are among the top-25 after 18 holes. Freshman
Jackson Whaley shot a two-under par 68 on Sunday to finish the round in a tie for sixth place. He is two back of the leaders: Rafe Blankenship of Western Kentucky and Will Drake of Jacksonville State (66).
Junior
Hugh Donegan is tied for 23
rd place after posting a first round 71.
Other Belmont scores from day one included: senior
Chris Harpum (T-31, 72), junior
Omar Khalid (T-40, 73), and senior
Jack Darke (T-49, 74).
