BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Grahame McDowell Invitational held this week at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham.
Belmont carded scores of 288 and 277 over the last two days to finish in fifth place at 849. Host UAB won the team title at 825, with Western Kentucky in second at 834.
Two Bruins finished among the top-30. Freshman
Jackson Whaley picked up his first career top-10 finish as he tied for eighth place at 207. He posted rounds of 69 and 70. Whaley finished six strokes back of the medalist, Jacob Rose of Tennessee Tech.Â
Other Belmont scores from tournament included: senior
Jack Darke (T-35, 216), senior
Chris Harpum (T-43, 218), and junior
Hugh Donegan (T-43, 218).
The highlight from Tuesday's play came from
Jack Darke, who carded a four-under par 66, which is a career best for the Georgia native and the lowest round by a Bruin this fall.Â
The men's golf team returns to competition on October 5-6 as they host the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate at Kemper Lakes Golf Club outside Chicago.Â
