Prior to Belmont: During his senior year running cross country at North Oldham, Townsend claimed Individual Champion titles at the Regional and District level, and finished 4th place at the state level. He also led his team to a District 1st place finish and a 4th place finish at the State Championships. The season prior he individually placed 2nd at Regionals and 6th at the State Championships.
