Jalen Tate serves as Belmont track and field's graduate assistant coach, working with the Bruins’ sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers alongside associate track and field head coach Cameron Harvey.
A native of Clarksville, Tennessee, Tate was an All-American at the University of Tennessee and coached high school track and field in his hometown. A 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships finalist in the triple jump, Tate was a three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America Second Team performer. He claimed All-Southeastern Conference Second Team honors and earned bronze in the triple jump at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships.
Tate starred at West Creek High School where he was a 2017 Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) state champion in the triple jump and still holds the school’s long jump and triple jump records. In the triple jump, Tate holds a personal best of 16.51m (54 feet, 2 inches) and his long jump personal record is 7.79m (25 feet, 6.75 inches).
As an assistant coach for the girls track and field team at Northeast High School in Clarksville, Tate coached five athletes to the TSSAA State Championships in two years.
He received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Tennessee in 2022.
