Joe Frye is entering his 13th year as an assistant coach with Belmont Track and Field. Frye coaches the throws events, leads strength and conditioning for all Cross Country & Track and Field athletes, and assists with recruiting for the Track & Field teams.

In June 2012, Frye was elevated to assistant coach for the men's track and field program. He had served as a graduate assistant for the program during the 2011-12 season while finishing his master's degree in sports administration.

Frye helped the throws crew maintain consistency as the Bruins transitioned from the OVC to the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022.

The women’s throws squad scored 53 points at the 2024 MVC Track and Field Championships was the highest point scoring squad in the conference. Alongside the team's success, Rebekah Stucker won Most Valuable Female Athlete and Frye was named women's assistant coach of the year. Frye recently sent women in all 4 throws events to NCAA East First Round, with Logan Gray finishing just outside of qualifying in 14th place.

He has coached 21 individual conference champions and 15 NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers in the throws disciplines.

Frye is a certified USATF Level II coach in both the Throws and Sprints/Hurdles/Relays disciplines, and has a National Strength and Conditioning Association's CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certification. He holds a BBA in Music Business as well as an Master's in Sport Administration.

Originally from Higgins Lake, Mich., Joe developed into one of the most decorated student-athletes in Belmont's NCAA Division I era.  Throughout his time as a thrower at Belmont, Joe was tagged Belmont "Athlete of the Year" as well as the Atlantic Sun Conference's "Most Valuable Performer" in 2010.  He was an NSCA All-American, as well as a USTFCCCA All-Academic scholar-athlete. Competing professionally after his time as a Belmont athlete, Frye qualified for a total of 9 indoor and 4 outdoor USA National Championships, with a highest finish of 4th overall. Joe was also a contender at the 2016 USA Track and Field Olympic Trials in the hammer throw.

Joe resides in Nashville with his wife, Haley, and his three children, Gatlin, Aria, and Marcus.
