Bailey Brownfield joined Belmont Softball as an assistant coach in October 2020.
Brownfield joins the Bruins after wrapping an outstanding collegiate career at Kent State, leaving footprints all over the program’s record book. She garnered numerous accolades including being named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Mideast Region twice - Second Team (2018) and Third Team (2019), as well as being a three-time All-MAC selection – earning first team distinction twice (2017, 2018) and second team (2019) honors. She then transitioned into a student assistant coach after her final season with the Golden Flashes.
“I’m so excited to have Bailey join the Belmont softball program. She was a tremendous player at Kent State, and she has put a lot of time into developing herself as a coach over the last few years,” Matthews said. “Her versatility, work ethic and understanding of the game will help elevate our program as we round out our coaching staff,” Matthews said.
During her career, the Thornville, Ohio native left her mark on the KSU record books, ranking second in career hits (206) and career doubles (45), fourth in career at bats (638), seventh in career batting average (.323), and first in total games played at 219.
The two-time MAC East Player of the Week was also a standout in the classroom earning an Academic All-MAC (2018) nod and Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete (2018) honors.
She cut her coaching teeth at numerous KSU softball camps during her time with the program, instructing campers ages 8 to 18 in the fundamentals of teamwork and sportsmanship to improve their abilities. Brownfield also served as an assistant coach for the Ohio Starz Fastpitch travel club for two years.
