An assistant professor of sport administration in Belmont University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business, Dr. Kristi F. Oshiro began her role as Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) on Jan. 1, 2025.
Dr. Oshiro joined the department of sport administration as an assistant professor in the fall of 2020. She earned a Ph.D. in kinesiology-sport management from Texas A&M University, a M.S. in kinesiology-sport management and a B.S. in sport studies with a minor in psychology from East Carolina University (ECU) where she was an all-region and all-conference softball student-athlete.
Prior to joining the faculty, Dr. Oshiro taught a variety of courses at Texas A&M including diversity in sport organizations, international sport business, and sport marketing. In addition, she has industry experience working in media relations (NCAA), serving as a high school softball coach, and doing consulting work.
Dr. Oshiro’s research interests include: 1) diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in sport, and 2) mental health, well-being, and holistic development for athletes and sport industry professionals. She has published research in journals such as Sport Management Review, Communication and Sport, and Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics and has presented at national and international conferences in Australia, Canada, and Europe. Dr. Oshiro is currently working on research related to turning points and empowerment for women and girls in sport, which has included collecting data and working with the Philippines Women’s National Team during their historic run to and through the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Born and raised in Mililani, Hawaii, Dr. Oshiro enjoys traveling, surfing, good coffee, spending time in nature, and being a dog mom.
