Belmont University men's basketball head coach Evan Bradds announced Wednesday, April 22, 2026 the hire of Marcus Belcher as an assistant coach for the Bruin program.
 
Belcher has two decades of college coaching experience, having spent the previous two seasons at ETSU.
 
"Marcus is an extraordinary addition to our coaching staff," Bradds said. "He has been there and done that in college basketball – both as a player and coach. Marcus' experience within the Missouri Valley Conference and his track record of success with player development will be invaluable resources for our players to draw from. I know he is excited to get to work and be a part of the Belmont community."

Prior to his time in Johnson City, Belcher spent two seasons at Jacksonville State.
 
He holds over a decade of coaching experience in the Missouri Valley Conference, including three seasons at Illinois State (2019-22), eight seasons at Indiana State (2011-19), one season at Southern Illinois (2010-11), and two seasons at Evansville (2008-10).
 
Belcher began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at SIU Edwardsville from 2004-06 and spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant coach at Eastern Illinois.
 
Belcher has coached under six head coaches who have combined for nearly 1,600 wins and 26 postseason appearances, including 11 NCAA Tournaments.
 
A native of Mexico, Missouri, Belcher played two seasons at Southern Illinois. Belcher was the starting point guard for the 2002 Salukis that went 28-8, won the MVC Championship, and reached the Sweet 16 under the leadership of Bruce Weber.
 
Belcher's brother, Cookie, played collegiately at Nebraska and played a decade overseas. His brother was also a member of Tyronn Lue's coaching staff with the Los Angeles Clippers.
 
Belcher received a master's degree in sport management from SIU Edwardsville in 2006.
