Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-- Belmont fell to Western Kentucky 0-3 on the
road at WKU Tuesday night. The Bruins fall to 6-10 on the season
and 0-12 all-time against the Lady Toppers.
Although it ended in only three sets, the match was a
competitive one. The Bruins fell in set one, 17-25, then kept
sets two and three close, falling in an extended set two, 27-29 and
in set three 25-22.
"I was very pleased with the way we competed tonight,"
Head Coach Deane Webb said. "WKU is a team I look forward to
playing every year, as I know it will be played well on both sides
of the net."
Belmont was again paced by senior outside hitter Kayla
Albritton with 13 kills and a .478 hitting percentage. Freshman
Jen
Myer added three service aces to lead the Bruins and fellow
freshman Hannah
Miranda held team-high honors in assists with 32.
"Kayla had another great night offensively, attacking well out
of both the front and back row," Webb said. "She also did a nice
job holding their 01 to a very low hitting percentage."
The match marked the first time all-five freshmen appeared in
the starting line-up. Danielle Prochaska earned her first start at
middle hitter and Jamie Lundstrom started her second match at the
libero position. Myer, Miranda, and Allison McCoy have all earned
regular starts this season. With all five freshmen on the floor,
Coach Webb and his staff had a chance to see them work as a unit
and evaluate how they have progressed so far this season.
"Tonight was a great opportunity for all five of our freshmen to
get on the court, and they gained valuable experience while out
there," Webb said. "Whether having played in most of our games
this year or in their first college start, it was great to see them
on the court and competing for our school. They made the most of
that experience and opportunity."
Belmont returns home for the final match of the non-conference
season against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. First serve is set
for 2 p.m. at the Curb Event Center.
