Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's soccer team (5-6-1, 1-1-1) dropped a 2-1 decision to Lipscomb (3-8-2, 2-1-0) in the annual Battle of the Boulevard on Sunday night in Nashville. Junior Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn.) became the all-time leader in career goals and points at Belmont with the lone BU score of the defeat.
Junior Lou Manning (Southlake, Texas) tallied his third save of the first half, but punched the ball out to Lipscomb's Nick Bibb, who one-timed a shot into the back of the net to give the Bisons the early lead in the 23rd minute of play.
Lipscomb held a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard at the break, and created many more scoring opportunities over the first 45 minutes of play. The Bisons outshot Belmont 10-0 in the first half, and tallied three corner kicks to the Bruins' two.
Just over 13 minutes into the second half the Bruins lost a man after senior Will Moorad (Brentwood, Tenn.) was sent off. Belmont fought their way through a tough second frame, remaining down 1-0 until Tarr tied the game in the 71st minute.
Senior T.J. Brown (Hendersonville, Tenn.) made a run down the sideline, just as he had done numerous times earlier in the game. Like almost every other one of his runs, Brown was able to get a cross into the box. However unlike the others, this time, a Bruin teammate got on the end of Brown's pass.
Tarr cut into the box, timed his jump perfectly, and headed the ball into the right-side upper 90 where Lipscomb goalkeeper Brent McGee had no chance of touching it. Tarr's goal was his eighth of the season, and marked the 23rd of his career. The score made Tarr the all-time leader in career goals and total points in Belmont history with 23 and 55, respectively.
Lipscomb was finally able to take advantage of their extra man when Deven Bahadoorsingh scored off of a Garret Pettis assist with less than nine minutes left in regulation. The Bisons' 2-1 lead was all they needed to record their second conference victory of the season.
The Bruins ended up with six shots to the Bisons 16, and tallied only four corners to Lipscomb's six. Manning totaled six saves for BU, while McGee finished with three stops for LU.
Belmont will next host North Florida on Friday, October 14. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. at Rose Park.
