ATLANTA, Ga.--- Belmont (5-14) struggled offensively, but put up a solid defensive effort, limiting Penn State to four runs in a 0-4 loss on Sunday in the Buckhead Classic hosted by Georgia Tech.
The Bruins used a strong pitching effort by freshman Mia Vierra and a solid relief outing by Devon Schmidt to limit Penn State's offensive opportunities, surrendering two earned runs on eight hits in the game. One big inning propelled Penn State ahead when they scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Belmont recorded only one hit, a double by junior Ashley Byers in the top of the second.
