Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Belmont women's soccer team (6-6-1, 2-2-1 OVC) picked up its second OVC victory in dramatic, come from behind fashion on the road Friday night. The Bruins knocked off Jacksonville State (10-4-2, 3-2-1 OVC) in double over time, 2-1. It marked the first program win over the Gamecocks for BU.
Sophomore Taylor Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) headed Belmont's equalizer goal in the 89th minute with the assist coming from classmate Allie Hicks (Carmel, Ind.).
Smith then went on to find the back of the net in the 103rd minute, with junior Amy Jo Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) on the assist, to give Belmont its first overtime victory of the season.
Newcomer Kim Elmore (Salem, Va.) led the Bruins with six shots, followed by senior Lauren Paynter (Danville, Ky.) with five. Smith, Hicks and senior Laura Harris (Macon, Ga.) each added three shots on the night.
Junior Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) went the distance between the posts and finished with 10 saves.
Belmont held the advantage in shots, 25-16, and corner kicks, 5-1.
"Both teams battled tonight," said Head Coach Heather Henson. "I am very proud of the ladies for playing every minute of the game. Tonight was a full team effort to get this result. I am so very proud of the ladies."
Belmont returns to action on Sunday, wrapping its four-match road trip at in-state rival Tennessee Tech. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. and live stats will be available.
