Men's Soccer Upset Bid Just Short at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Despite leading in the late going, Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 3-1 decision at eighth-ranked Louisville Saturday night.

The Bruins (0-2-1) came out strong in the first half, setting the pace of the game verse the nationally ranked Cardinals.  The hard fought play of the first half resulted in a half time stalemate 0-0. 

At the beginning of the second half, the Bruins continued there field dominance resulting in a goal by senior Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn) assisted by junior Austin Embry (Southlake, Texas) in the 50th minute of play.  The second half goal by Tarr is his first of the season as well as Embry's first assist of the season.

However, Embry suffered his second yellow card of the game in the 66th minute causing Belmont to play a man down; which resulted in a major turning point in the game.

The No. 8 Cardinals (1-1) took advantage of the absence of Embry, scoring a quick equalizer to even the game 1-1 in the 66th minute.

Cardinal momentum continued, scoring two more unanswered goals in the 75th and 82nd minute of play setting the match 3-1.

The No. 8 Louisville Cardinals improve to 1-1, while Belmont dropped its second straight match falling to 0-2-1.

The Bruins return to action Labor Day evening at Memphis.
